Education & Personal Background
Mr. Briggs graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in History and a Certificate in Latin American Studies in 1990, and from the University of Florida Levin College of Law with a J.D. in 1993. Edson completed a four-year tour of active duty with the United States Army Military Intelligence Corps in 1997. He served most of that tour in Panama, supporting U.S. interests in Latin America, including working with Latin American military and diplomatic officials in humanitarian, counterterrorism, and counternarcotics operations. After receiving an honorable discharge at the rank of Captain, Edson returned to South Florida in 1997 to begin the private practice of law. After working in a law firm for a few years, Edson returned to school and earned an L.L.M. from the University of Miami School of Law in 2002. Completing this program, much of which was taught in Spanish, and which focused on Latin American legal systems, has helped him understand the unique perspectives of clients from Latin America who have legal issues or matters in the United States.
In his spare time, Edson enjoys spending time with his wife Gennifer, and his two sons, and supporting their activities and interests, including athletics and Scouting, and racing in marathons and triathlons, including the Miami Marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon, the New York City Marathon, and the Ironman Florida Triathlon.
